Manual Driver Assignment

For businesses that prefer direct control over which driver handles each order:

  1. Go to Orders > All Orders
  2. Filter by status "Confirmed" or "Processing" to see orders ready for dispatch
  3. Select one or more orders using the checkboxes
  4. Click "Assign Driver" from the bulk actions menu
  5. Choose a driver from the dropdown list. The list shows each driver's name, assigned zone, and current order count for the day
  6. Confirm the assignment

Dispatch Board

The Dispatch Board provides a visual interface for managing driver assignments:

  • View all available drivers as columns with their assigned orders as cards
  • Drag and drop orders between drivers to reassign
  • See real-time driver capacity (current load vs. maximum daily capacity)
  • Color-coded indicators show driver availability: green (available capacity), yellow (near capacity), red (at capacity)

Auto-Assignment

CODRocket can automatically assign orders to drivers based on configurable rules:

  • Zone-Based: Orders are assigned to drivers whose zones match the delivery address
  • Load Balancing: Orders are distributed evenly among available drivers in the same zone
  • Capacity-Based: Orders are only assigned to drivers who have not reached their daily maximum

To enable auto-assignment, go to Settings > Delivery > Auto-Assignment and toggle it on.

Batch Assignment

For maximum efficiency, group orders by delivery area and assign them as batches:

  1. Go to Orders and select the orders you want to assign
  2. Click "Create Batch"
  3. Select a zone or city filter
  4. The system groups all pending orders in that area
  5. Assign the entire batch to a driver
  6. The driver receives all orders in their app sorted by optimal delivery route

Driver Notifications

When orders are assigned, drivers receive notifications through:

  • Mobile App Push: Instant notification with order count and zone
  • SMS: A text message with assignment summary (useful if the driver is offline)
  • In-App Order List: The full list of assigned orders with customer details and addresses

Reassigning and Unassigning Orders

Sometimes you need to change driver assignments:

  • Reassign: If a driver is unable to complete a delivery (vehicle breakdown, sickness), reassign their pending orders to another driver
  • Unassign: Remove the driver assignment to return the order to the unassigned queue
  • Both actions can be performed from the order detail page or the Dispatch Board

Best Practices for Driver Assignment

  • Batch by geography: Always group nearby deliveries together to minimize travel time and fuel costs
  • Consider driver capacity: Overloading drivers leads to rushed deliveries and lower success rates
  • Time-sensitive orders first: Prioritize orders with specific delivery time requests
  • Review performance data: Use delivery analytics to identify which drivers have the highest success rates and assign important orders to them
